Infant Peek-A-Boo
Infant Care: Peek-A-Boo!
Searching for a hidden person or object is a game that children of all ages love. It starts for babies with a peek-a-boo-someone hides behind a diaper or a blanket for a few seconds, pops out, and says, “Peek-a-Boo!” The baby pays attention and smiles. Later she may surprise you by pulling the diaper over her head!
This is a very important learning game. A baby in her first year is learning that objects she cant see still exist. Her parents will come back when they leave her-at night to sleep or at day care with you. As you hide for longer periods of time or pop out from behind a chair, she learns to accept surprises.
After she learns to walk, the toddler may start the game herself by hiding from you. Its the beginning of hide-and-seek and exciting treasure hunts!
